The goal of the GROW (Getting Residents Out of Wheelchairs) Coalition is to encourage nursing homes to limit the use of wheelchairs to transportation-only devices. Residents should have access to normal seating when eating, sitting, talking, visiting with friends, watching TV, listening to entertainment programs, and resting. Normal seating includes: chairs, chairs with ottomans, couches, recliners, dining room chairs, easy chairs, and living /family room chairs.
ForAccess.com supports the GROW Coalition because they advocate for quality care for our elderly. A recent report stated that by 2014, there will be approximately 5.9 million Americans over the age of 85. These individuals will need access to quality care and professionals. ForAccess exists to connect consumers with qualified, caring professionals. We know that one of the reasons adult children struggle with the decision to place mom or dad in a long term care facility is concern about the quality of life their parents will experience. Providing normal seating for the elderly is one simple way of maintaining the semblance of normalcy for these individuals.
